Library

The Langley Academy Library is open 8.00 am – 4.00 pm Monday to Thursday and on Fridays 8.00am -1:40 pm. Located on the ground floor of the North Wing, the Library is the heart of the school.  It is a welcoming space where students can browse, read, and work quietly before, during, and after school.

The Library stocks a variety of fiction, which is constantly updated reflecting current reviews, trends, book awards, and according to student requests via student suggestions. Curriculum supporting resources, study and revision aids are updated regularly through staff recommendations. The books are arranged by genre to make for a more browsable collection.

Literary events such as World Book Day, National Poetry Day and the Carnegie Book Award are regularly promoted. Different genres are highlighted, particularly when they tie in with the curriculum and Museum Learning. We also run an author-in-residence programme.

Last year, Seth Burkett, author of "Play Like Your Football Heroes," collaborated with our students to create football-inspired stories. It resulted in an incredible experience where our students wrote, edited, and published their debut book, with illustrations contributed by one of our talented students. The Fatal Football and Other Stories is now available on Amazon.

The main thrust of the Library continues to be the promotion of reading for pleasure as it has a proven track record in dramatically improving students’ vocabulary, knowledge, understanding, empathy, lateral thinking and much more!

Literacy at The Langley Academy is supported by our use of Bedrock Learning

Our library management system, Accessit, enables students to view the school Library catalogue. They can search for titles, renew loans, make reservations, write reviews, create their own book lists, research topics online using the One Search option and much more! Click on the link to be directed to the Langley Accessit webpage. Langley students can sign in by clicking on ‘Guest’ and then on the blue ‘Login via SSO’ button. They must be signed in to their Langley Microsoft account first and remember to sign out afterwards.

Wheelers ePlatform supplies the school with a large selection of e-Books which can be a fantastic alternative to hard copies – it can be read on a phone or tablet making it brilliantly portable for journeys and holidays. If a hard copy is unavailable in the Library it may well be found on the Wheelers platform, together with an extensive Wellbeing collection. The Wheelers catalogue can be viewed here:

It can also be accessed via the link on the Accessit landing page. Students need to click ‘sign in’ in the top RH corner and then on the blue Sign In box. As with Accessit they will need to be signed in to their school Microsoft account.
