“A placement on an employer’s premises in which a student carries out a particular task or duty, or range of tasks or duties, more or less as would an employee, but with an emphasis on the learning aspects of the experience.”
- Definition of work experience, Department for Education
Our students have the opportunity to go out on a World of Work placement in Year 10 and Year 12 and we work closely with Learning to Work to try to place students in suitable placements. Students are able to find their own placement with friends or family if they prefer; Learning to Work will provide risk assessments and health and safety checks on all own placements.
Do you work for a company that could offer a placement to a Langley Academy student, even if it isn’t suitable for your own son or daughter?
If so, please complete an Opportunities Form and return it to Ruth Turner at the academy.
Year 10 World Of Work Week – 6 to 10 March 2017 is all about experiencing life in the working world and isn’t necessarily linked with a student’s future career path, although we do try to place students in one of their top three choices. It is an opportunity for them to start building their employability skills (also known as transferable skills) such as communication, team working, working independently, organising and planning, etc.
Year 10 students have a Skills For Life day on 10 February 2017 to help with their preparation for the World of Work.
Year 12 Future Focus Week - 3 – 7 July 2017
This will be a combination of 2 days of work ready workshops, presentations, activities and guest speakers with local Business volunteers, and 3 days of work experience organised or facilitated by Learning to Work.
Students will have the opportunity of organising their own placements if they wish as long as the Health & Safety aspects are carried out by Learning to Work.
