Chemistry

The story of chemistry becomes even more intriguing as students find out more and realise that an understanding of chemistry enables the understanding of everything in the universe from inanimate objects such as rocks, to finding possible solutions to the energy crisis, global warming and the health challenges that all Human Beings face

We aim to develop students to become skilled scientists, and with the use of mathematical and literacy skills,  they are encouraged to plan and carry out their own scientific investigations and analysis. Practical discovery is at the heart of everything we do.

Chemistry explores the ideas around tiny particles that make up everything in our universe. Students discover how these particles react with each other to form the more complex materials we use in our everyday lives.

Our students are guided to learn about elements, made up of particles called atoms or molecules and compounds which can be also be composed of molecules or other particles known as ions.  Students look at composition, structure, properties, and chemical and physical characteristics of substances.

Chemical properties are about the way a substance react with other substances. This can be represented using word and symbol equations which our students develop their knowledge of over the course of their learning journey at the academy.

Physical properties can be observed or measured without changing the composition of matter. They include: appearance, texture, colour, odour, melting point, boiling point, density and solubility.
