Year 10: Rising to the Challenge
Back
We are incredibly proud of the confident and enthusiastic start our Year 10 students have made to their GCSE journey. Their maturity, focus, and engagement in lessons and wider school life have been impressive, and it has been wonderful to see them embracing the challenges and opportunities of this important year.
Earlier this term, we held our Year 10 Welcome Evening, where students and parents were introduced to the expectations of GCSE study. The evening covered key information around core subjects – English, Maths, and Science – as well as practical revision techniques to support learning at home. For anyone who was unable to attend, the presentation is available on the Year 10 Teams page and can be accessed by all students.
A special congratulations goes to Shraddha, who received the “Shining Rockstar” award from the Scottish Government in the Cultural and Social category for her outstanding achievements in dance. Shraddha travelled to Scotland to accept her award and continues to inspire us all – having previously won Langley’s Got Talent and performed in front of the whole school. We are incredibly proud of her success and dedication.
This half term, Year 10 have attended a range of thought-provoking school assemblies that have broadened their horizons. Highlights included opportunities such as a potential trip to Ecuador and a History visit to Ypres, Belgium. Assemblies have also focused on mental health, ethical decision-making, and global awareness – most recently exploring the food chain behind chocolate production.
In House Tutor time, students have been developing their critical thinking by analysing current news articles. They have learned how to verify sources, identify bias, and engage thoughtfully with contemporary issues such as young people’s voices in the pandemic inquiry, Snapchat’s new fee model, and the potential closure of the local theatre, The Mill at Sonning. These discussions have sparked meaningful debate and encouraged students to consider their role as informed and active citizens.
As we approach the October half term, we hope all students enjoy a well-deserved break. It’s the perfect time to recharge and prepare for the next half term – whether that means checking uniform, replenishing stationery, or simply taking time to relax and reset for the weeks ahead.
