Action, Achievement and Attitude: Sport at The Langley Academy
Back
It has been an action-packed and inspiring term for sport at The Langley Academy, with students across all year groups representing the school with pride, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship. From Boccia tournaments and indoor athletics to football, netball, badminton, and national honours, our students have shown that effort, resilience, and teamwork sit at the heart of everything they do.
Another Year, Another Boccia Battle
Our Boccia teams once again took to the courts with enthusiasm as six new players proudly represented the academy. Entering two teams, both progressed through the group stages, showing impressive adaptability, strategy, and teamwork. Although strong opposition ended our run in the knockout rounds, it was a fantastic experience for all involved. The players left motivated, confident, and eager to build on this performance in future competitions.
Year 7 Boys Football – A Promising Start
This term marked an exciting milestone for our Year 7 boys as they played their first competitive fixtures together. Facing Dedworth in their opening match, the team showed resilience and determination despite a tough result. A thrilling cup tie against St Joseph’s followed, where the game remained level until the final moments. While the result did not go our way, the performance, attitude, and teamwork on display were excellent. With Charlie M appointed captain and Arav S vice-captain, and fixtures already lined up for January, the future looks bright for this talented group.
Year 7 Powerleague Tournament
Our Year 7 boys also competed in the Powerleague tournament, entering two teams and representing the school superbly. Team 1 demonstrated real grit and perseverance in a challenging group, while Team 2 impressed with their passing, movement, and teamwork, narrowly missing out on a place in the finals. Both teams showed fantastic commitment and a positive attitude throughout the day.
Year 8 Football – A 4–4 Thriller
Year 8 produced one of the matches of the term in a thrilling 4–4 draw against Trevelyan. Samson led the scoring with a brilliant brace, while Marco added a moment of magic with a stunning chip over the keeper. Debuts for Ismaeel and Raheem added energy and depth, and Luke B and Dylan caused constant problems out wide. The team showed resilience, creativity, and belief throughout and head into the next fixtures full of confidence.
Year 8 Indoor Athletics – Talent and Team Spirit on Show
Our Year 8 students delivered a superb performance at the Indoor Athletics Competition at Langley Grammar School. Competing in sprints, relays, long jump, and shot putt, students showed determination, resilience, and excellent sportsmanship. The atmosphere was electric, with teammates cheering each other on throughout. The girls finished 7th and the boys achieved a joint third place – both fantastic results. It was a brilliant showcase of talent and teamwork.
Year 9 Football – Learning Through Challenge
The Year 9 team faced strong opposition in their fixture against St Bernard’s. Despite a tough scoreline, the team showed excellent character, commitment, and teamwork. Kayden worked tirelessly throughout, while Aekjot and Mosawer battled hard in midfield. This experience will serve them well as they continue to develop and build towards future success.
Year 10 Netball – Dominant Display
Our Year 10 netball team enjoyed a fantastic fixture against Westgate, delivering a confident and cohesive team performance. With different combinations tried throughout the game, players showed versatility and strong on-court connections, securing an impressive 13–0 victory. The teamwork, focus, and communication on display were outstanding.
Year 10 Football – Determined to Turn the Tide
It has been a challenging start to the season for our Year 10 football squad in Division One as the team continues to find its rhythm. Ethan has led the line tirelessly, providing goals and leadership. Although recent results have been tough, the team showed real improvement in their second-half performance against Windsor Boys and remain determined to turn things around in the fixtures ahead.
Year 11 Football – Cup Triumph with a Tactical Masterclass
The Year 11 football team produced their best performance of the season with an outstanding 4–2 cup victory over St Bernard’s. Using a bold 5-3-2 formation, the boys showed tactical discipline, defensive solidity, and attacking flair. Goals from Ethan, Carl, Ollie, and Rayan lit up the match, with long-range strikes and a composed chip delighting the crowd. Mr Eshelby described it as their best performance at the academy – a well-earned compliment for a superb team display.
GCSE PE Exam Workshop – Building Confidence and Technique
Our Year 10 and 11 GCSE PE students benefited from an excellent exam workshop delivered by Jackie Brookes from PE Active. The session focused on command words, exam technique, and developing high-level AO3 responses. Students practised structuring answers, linking theory to real-life examples, and maximising marks. Feedback was extremely positive, with many students commenting on how much clearer the exam expectations now feel.
KS4 Badminton – Battling to the Semi-Finals
After months of preparation, our KS4 boys’ badminton team competed in the Slough Tournament, winning all their group matches and progressing to the semi-finals. Standout performances came from Arnav, Ishaan, and Saketh. Although narrowly beaten in the semis and playoff, the boys showed excellent skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Celebrating Toju – England U16 Selection
We are incredibly proud to share that Toju has been selected to represent England at Under-16 level. This is a phenomenal achievement and a true reflection of his talent, dedication, and commitment. Representing your country is a huge honour, and we look forward to supporting Toju as he prepares for camps and fixtures, including the exciting England v Netherlands match.
Girls Takeover Thursdays – Growing the Game
Thursday after-school sessions have been dedicated to girls-only football and netball, and the response has been fantastic. Attendance has been strong, energy high, and the enthusiasm shown by our students has been inspiring. These sessions are already building confidence and skill, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead for girls’ sport at TLA.
6th Form Football – Learning and Looking Forward
Our 6th Form team faced a tough derby cup match against Langley Grammar. While the result was not what we hoped for, the squad remains motivated and determined to bounce back. This experience will serve as a valuable learning opportunity as the team continues to develop and build towards future fixtures.
A Term to Be Proud Of
Across all year groups and competitions, our students have shown resilience, respect, teamwork, and pride in representing The Langley Academy. Whether competing, supporting teammates, or striving for personal bests, the attitude and commitment on display have been outstanding. We look forward to an exciting next term of fixtures, tournaments, and opportunities.
