Celebrating Success, Opportunity and Ambition in the Sixth Form

Year 12 Parent's Evening
Year 12 Parent's Evening will take place on Thursday 4 June 2026 from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. This important event provides students and families with an opportunity to receive key information about current progress and effort across subjects. Teachers will also identify areas for development and outline practical steps for improvement.
Success in post-16 education is strongest when there is a partnership between students, parents and carers, and the school. Having parents and carers present ensures that everyone receives the same information, expectations and guidance as students continue their journey towards their future goals.
Year 13 Leavers' Day – A Fond Farewell to the Class of 2026
On Friday 8 May 2026, our Year 13 students marked the end of their time in the Sixth Form in truly memorable fashion.
The day began with a special leavers' assembly, taking students on a nostalgic journey through their years at The Langley Academy. Featuring a collection of memorable – and often amusing – photographs submitted by the students themselves, the assembly was filled with laughter, reflection and celebration. It provided a wonderful reminder of how much this cohort has grown since joining the Academy.
Students then enjoyed a celebratory barbecue in the Sixth Form, where shirt-signing, photographs and shared memories created a fitting send-off. Friends and staff gathered together to mark the occasion and celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2026.
The day concluded with a moment that will go down in Academy history. For the first time, Year 13 students were clapped out of the building by Year 12 students and Year 7 pupils, who lined the route to give them a heartfelt farewell. It was a genuinely moving occasion and one that we hope becomes a cherished Academy tradition for years to come.
We wish every member of Year 13 the very best as they take their next steps. They leave behind a legacy of which they should be immensely proud.
Year 12 Enterprise Skills Challenge
Year 12 students recently took part in an Enterprise Skills Challenge delivered in partnership with Learning to Work. The challenge saw students run their own virtual coffee shop, giving them valuable insight into launching and managing a business while developing key entrepreneurial skills.
Working collaboratively in teams, students created brands, designed menus, set pricing strategies and developed marketing campaigns with the aim of generating a profit. Along the way, they explored concepts such as budgeting, supply and demand, customer experience and business decision-making.
The project also strengthened teamwork, communication and leadership skills, with students taking responsibility for areas such as finance, marketing and operations. Through reflection and adaptation, students demonstrated resilience and professionalism, making the challenge a valuable bridge between classroom learning and the world of work.
Enrichment Programme Continues to Flourish
The Year 12 Enrichment Programme continued throughout Term 5 and remains a central part of Sixth Form life. All tutor groups have now completed the full rotation of activities within this bespoke programme.
The programme supports personal development through sessions focused on wellbeing, financial literacy and fitness, helping students build important life skills and healthy habits. Activities such as Broadening Horizons and the Museum Learning Project have further expanded students' experiences, encouraging curiosity and exposing them to new opportunities and perspectives.
A particular strength of the programme is the opportunity for students to select activities that match their interests, promoting independence, personal responsibility and effective time management. Following their mock examinations, students will now begin to place a greater emphasis on academic progress as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
A Day in the Life Series
Being a Law Student at the University of Cambridge
Scholars Club students recently attended an inspiring talk delivered by representatives from the University of Cambridge Faculty of Law alongside two current Cambridge law students.
The session provided a clear and accessible overview of studying Law at Cambridge, explaining the balance between lectures, small-group supervisions and independent study that develops strong analytical and legal reasoning skills. Students learned about the structure of the degree, the range of specialist study options available and the opportunities offered through initiatives such as studying abroad.
The student speakers shared honest reflections on their own experiences, discussing workload, college life and the transition to one of the world's leading universities. They also provided practical advice on the admissions process, including the LNAT, interviews and personal statements, leaving attendees better informed and encouraged to explore future opportunities in Law.
Being an Apprentice Engineer at the Dyson Institute
Students also welcomed former Langley Academy student Elisa Metalia, who spoke about her Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Elisa explained how the programme offers a practical alternative to the traditional university route, allowing apprentices to earn a salary, gain industry experience and graduate without student debt while developing technical skills alongside professional engineers.
Reflecting on her own journey, Elisa highlighted the importance of embracing opportunities beyond the classroom. She spoke about her involvement in student leadership, Eton Physics courses, the Cambridge STEM SMART programme and an Oxford summer school, all of which helped prepare her for her current pathway.
Elisa also shared her experiences of completing research into materials for quantum computing and participating in a Penguin Publishing summer programme. Her message was clear: curiosity, resilience and a willingness to seek out opportunities can be just as important as academic success when pursuing ambitious goals.
Through events such as these, our Sixth Form students continue to gain valuable insight into the diverse pathways available to them, helping them make informed decisions about their futures with confidence and ambition.
